  84. (but then again I also have 3 hard disks connected).

  86. need to upgrade to 1.5.10.3.

  102. Well I have just seen a New product for the teaching
  103. of Piano Playing called 'Miracle'.
  104.  
  105. This is a Large Keyboard, it also has Midi Support,
  106. and connects to your computer/games console thought
  107. the Joystick port.

  109. It looks like its a USA product as one of the manuals that
  110. I had a chance to look at, had the Software Toolworks name on it.
  111.  
  112. But now the crunch comes, NO Support for Atari Computers,
  113. it has support for PC's, Amiga and Nintendo, but that is
  114. again a funny thing none of those systems have built in
  115. Midi..
  116.  
  117. So why has the USA droped Atari, is it no longer considered
  118. a machine for music use, and do they no longer sell them
  119. in music shops over there .?

  184.       Your best bet is to insert a bootable floppy into your drive
  185. and turn your hard disk and ST on at the same time.  The hard disk
  186. will not boot for at least 15 seconds, but in the meantime, your
  187. floppy will.  At that point you should have some sort of desktop.
  188. The only procedure left is to run your harddisk's driver.  This
  189. procedure should allow you access to your auto folder so that you
  190. may delete the offending program.

  202. Data Diet compress files transparently, right?

  204. How [well] does it cope with random accesses to a file?  For example, if
  205. I Fseek 15000 bytes into the file, how does D.D. cope?  I'm lost, and very
  206. sceptical about these Data Diet tools.  Also, I had a head crash on my
  207. hard disk, but I was able to restore a large number of ASCII source files
  208. by dumping tracks from the HD and manually sorting them out.  Had they
  209. been compressed, all would have been lost.  Secondly, my main reason for
  210. a hard disk is speed.  I can buy a disk five time the size, but not one
  211. five times as fast.  How much slower is Data Diet?

  310. It's actually not doing too badly, for a change.  The mag was revamped
  311. for the October issue, taking on board some of the features of the late,
  312. lamented ST World.  The current (November) issue contains possibly their
  313. best cover disk for some time, including a working (except for 'save')
  314. demo version of Avant Vector.
  315.  
  316. The tone of the mag is much less juvenile than it was a few months ago.
  317. Games coverage is still, of course, present, but it's mostly confined to
  318. its own special section, which can be pulled out.
  319.  
  320. ST User now has IDs on several online systems, including CompuServe.  I
  321. can't remember that one, but an alternative is stuser@compulink.co.uk

  336.   I use the Absoft FORTRAN quite heavily from time to time.
  337. I would like to be able to find the 32kbytes (right?) which contain the
  338. data for the monochrome screen in memory, and copy them elsewhere from
  339. a FORTRAN program. Is this possible at all? I've never seen info like
  340. this anywhere, but I'm sure this is a FAQ to someone in the know.

  342. Specific definition of problem:
  343.   (a) I have drawn curves to the screen using the appropriate AES call.
  344.   (b) Copy screen data, byte-for-byte, from RAM into a program-defined array
  345.           (this could also be bit-for-bit)

  360. I have two small problems with my MEGA STE and wondered if anyone (Allan ?)
  361. could give me a hint what I should do:

  363. - If I have several windows open on the desktop and start a program I
  364.   sometimes get the message "Out of Memory" (or something like that).
  365.   When the program is ended the last opened window/folder is closed.
  366.   This is irritating (happend with only 2 windows open sometimes).
  367.  
  368. - I have run out of room in the newdesk.inf file
  369.   I have lots of icons on the desktop, icons for files, files installed
  370.   with doc-types, and all together it it more that 126 lines.
  371.   But for some STUPID reason 126 lines seems to be the max-limit for
  372.   the newdesk.inf file.  A patch gives more lines would be great !!!!

  389. compatable version with no problems whatsoever, so whoever it was must
  390. have another software conflict somewhere.

  407. Beim Erstellen eines Druckertreibers fielen mir seltsame
  408. weisse Linien auf. Nach langem Suchen sah ich ,dass im Druckkopf
  409. eine Nadel fehlt oder abgebrochen ist :( . Es ist die unterste, was
  410. beim Textausdruck nicht stoert, umso mehr aber bei Grafik.

  437. You have gulam, so you have a *shell*, a thingie that interprets
  438. commands.
  439.  
  440. Now, you want some utilities - go to atari.archive.umich.edu and find
  441. the unixtkit.arc (or is that .lzh) file - this is the basic UNIX
  442. utility set ready for use in gulam.  Copy the desired .TTP files
  443. (renamed from .PRG) for your desired utilities to the bin directory
  444. (where your other binaries for gulam are).
  445.  
  446. If you want C, you should go to the programming subdir of
  447. atari.archive and seek out the sozobon C stuff.
  448.  
  449. This is what I did to put together a programming environment (cheap)
  450. for my Atari.  I added the GEMfast libraries so that I could work on a
  451. sample editor for my old, lame-duck S612 sampler from AKAI (again,
  452. cheap).
  453.  
  454. I have my environment (get this) on one DS/DD disk that I boot.  I
  455. suggest you get a make utility if you want to do serious C development
  456. and a clock for your Atari (unless it already has one).
  457.  
  458. That should be all you need to do what you want.

  541. In the UK the explicitly TT-compatible version is 3.20TT.  Yes, it

  582. I have been trying to build the sozobon C compiler on a SUN 4 using the
  583. sozosun.zoo diffs on terminator (aka atari.archive). Most of it compiles
  584. except for hcc.ttp, the block pre.c cannot find some externs:--

  593. Where are these? The Makefile also has in the OBJS tok.o, there is no

  662. YUCK!  I went through 4 sets of Atari joysticks before I bought myself a pair
  663. of WICO joysticks.  That was 8 years ago, and the WICOs still work perfectly!
  664. Atari joysticks (and most others) use weak little shell switches, and all
  665. soft plastic components - WICO use strong reed switches, hard plastic and
  666. metal components!  Sure, they cost more, but in $/year they are by far the
  667. most economical!
